To give you greater flexibility, accommodation is booked separately from the Ceramic Dojo program. We highly recommend staying at Issai-an, a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese farmhouse (kominka) located near Echizen Pottery Village.

Live within a traditional Japanese farmhouse, where daily life becomes part of the practice.

You stay together in a single century-old kominka Issai-an, sharing a quiet rhythm of daily life with a small group of fellow participants. Sleeping spaces are private rooms divided by fusuma sliding doors—where you sleep on traditional futon bedding spread directly on tatami. Simple, personal, and in keeping with how Japanese homes have been lived in for generations. Mornings and evenings are spent back at the house, with time on the engawa to observe the garden and rest with the surrounding natural sounds.​

Bathing & Comfort

Bathing is in a traditional Japanese-style household bath.

For those who wish, a local onsen is located nearby and easily accessible.

While the house preserves its historic character, basic comforts are in place:
